Resident Firefighter Program

The Camas Valley Rural Fire District Resident Firefighter Program provides housing in exchange for service, training, and emergency response availability. This program is designed to strengthen volunteer staffing while offering participants real-world experience in fire and emergency services.
Program Goals
- Increase emergency response availability, especially nights and weekends
- Improve response times throughout the Camas Valley community
- Develop trained firefighters and emergency medical responders
- Create a pathway into fire, EMS, and public safety careers
- Strengthen volunteer recruitment and retention
Eligibility Requirements
- 18 years of age or older
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to pass background check, drug screening, and medical evaluation
- No prior fire or EMS certifications required
- Ability to meet physical demands of firefighting
Resident Benefits

Resident Responsibilities
- Respond to emergency calls while on station (within certification level)
- Attend all required training drills and meetings
- Provide station coverage 3–4 days per week or meet minimum hour requirements
- Complete daily station duties including cleaning and apparatus checks
- Maintain professional behavior and adherence to district policies
Training & Certification
- Firefighter I – target completion within 3 months
- EMR or EMT – target completion within 5 months
- Driver/Operator training as assigned
Residents may respond to emergency incidents under supervision prior to completing all certifications.
Life at the Station
- No alcohol or illegal substances on station property
- Quiet hours observed: 1:00 AM – 8:00 AM
- Limited overnight guests with prior approval
- Private dorm rooms with shared common areas
