Flood Sandbag Distribution Program

Protect your home or property from floodwaters with free sandbags provided by the Camas Valley Volunteer Fire Department.

Two tied sacks, one dark gray and the other beige, standing upright.

We currently have 1,000 sandbags available, acquired through state surplus. These are offered first-come, first-served during times of flooding. Due to the limited number available, Sandbags are reserved Camas Valley Rural Fire District community members only.

📦 How to Request Sandbags

You can request sandbags in two ways:

  • 📞 Call us: (541) 430-5453
  • 📝 Fill out the request form below
⚠️ Quantities are limited. Requests do not guarantee availability.

How to Fill Sandbags

You will need:

  • Sand, dirt, or fine gravel (sand is best for water barriers)
  • A shovel or similar tool
  • A helper (recommended)

Steps:

  1. Do not overfill. Fill the bag about half to two-thirds full so it can be easily shaped and stacked.
  2. Leave space at the top so the bag can be tied or folded closed.

🧱 How to Place Sandbags

  1. Lay flat with the folded end facing inward toward the floodwater.
  2. Stagger like bricks in a wall to create a stronger barrier.
  3. Tamp down each bag after placing to remove gaps.
  4. For walls more than three layers high, stack in a pyramid shape for stability.
🔧 Pro Tip: If possible, place a sheet of plastic behind the wall to improve water resistance.
