Medication and Sharps
Disposal of Unused or Expired Medications
Proper disposal of old, unused, or expired medications helps protect our community, prevents drug abuse, and keeps hazardous substances out of our water supply.
For Medication:
Unused or expired medication can be taken to the Douglas County Sheriff's office and placed into their prescription drop box for safe disposal. This drop box is located at 1036 SE Douglas Ave, Roseburg, OR 97470
For Sharps:
Who can participate?
This is a sharps container program for household residents in Douglas County. You can bring sharps in approved containers to any transfer station. County transfer Douglas station attendants will accept your approved container for disposal free of charge, and give you a new container.
Residential care facilities, group homes and other commercial generators of sharps (for example: medical offices and facilities, veterinary clinics, and livestock operations) should contact a medical waste management company for disposal options.
What are sharps?
Sharps include needles, IV tubing with needles attached, scalpel blades, lancets, glass tubes and slides, and syringes.
According to state law, approved sharps containers are leak-proof, rigid, puncture-resistant, sealed and clearly marked with the biohazard symbol.
